Toenail conditions Managed at The Nail Surgery Clinic include:

●Severe, painful ingrown toenails.

●Recurring ingrown toenails.

●Involuted Nails

The Nail Surgery Clinic (TNSC) offers a permanent solution for recurring painful ingrown toenails in the form of a Nail Wedge Resection with phenolisation of root matrix(see below), in a relaxed atmosphere, under local anaesthesia. There is a 95% chance that your ingrown toenail will not grow back down the sides again.

Procedures include:

●Nail Wedge Resection (NWR) / Partial Nail avulsion (PNA) with phenolisation of root matrix (Whereby a small slither of nail is removed from the sides - you still keep the rest of your toenail).

●Total nail avulsion (TNA) with phenolisation of matrix (Entire nail is removed completely)

●There are no scars after the procedure.

●No sutures/stitches

Only a small % of nails have to be totally removed. The majority are managed with a Nail Wedge Resection, either on 1 side or both sides.

Kindly note:

●The Nail Surgery Clinic may, at the discretion of the podiatrist, refer those deemed to have High Risk feet to alternative organizations for management. These include any individual who may have extremely poor peripheral circulation, uncontrollable diabetes and/or peripheral neuropathy.

●Smoking may have an impact on the healing rate

●Vascular assessment may be required is some cases, in order to determine the rate of blood flow to the feet. This is important to determine the healing rate. These may include painless non- invasive tests such as an ABPI (Ankle Brachial Pressure Index), TBPI ( Toe Brachial Pressure Index), Duplex Scan or Doppler Ultrasound. These may be used in a person with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), restricting arterial blood flow to the extremities.

●Cases with severe peripheral arterial disease may be referred to a vascular surgeon for management, via your GP.

●The Nail Surgery Clinic (TNSC) will liaise with your GP about your expected nail surgery and outcomes. A photograph of your ingrown toenail will be taken prior to your surgery (with your written. permission), and kept with your records. More photo's will be taken at various stages of healing with a final one when completely healed. A copy of the first and last photo will be sent. to your GP together with a full report.
